Sustainability
The environmental impact of our business is always at the forefront of our minds and we consistently search for new sustainable processes to implement. Our current initiatives include:
Prioritising local ingredients, supporting local business and reducing our carbon footprint.
The installation of solar panels.
Moving towards using 100% recycled/able paper stock & packaging
Rehabilitating habitat for natives animals on our distillery property
Handfish Conservation
We named our gin Last Sanctuary because the Derwent Estuary/River, on which our distillery is built, is one of the last sanctuaries for 3 Handfish species.
To help with the conservation of these unique animals we are proud to donate a portion of sales from Last Sanctuary Gin to the Handfish Conservation Project.
The Handfish Conservation Project was established in 2018 to implement a recovery plan for three critically endangered species of handfish; Red Handfish, Spotted Handfish and Ziebell’s Handfish
COMMUNITy
At the essence of our business philosophy is community. We take a strong approach to working with local groups and residents. Much of our build work was completed by people who live within the Dromedary and Derwent Valley area.
We are very proud to have become a Founding Partner of the Friends of Bonorong fundraising group. Bonorong Park is a wildlife sanctuary located only 16km from our distillery. They supply 24hr care to injured wildlife as well as wildlife rescue, conservation initiatives, community and visitor education and essential research. We are looking forward to working with them closely in the future.
COLLABORATION
When we first met Bill Lark he said to us -
‘A rising tide lifts all boats’.
We’ve brought this mentality with us throughout our journey in the distilling industry. We have been lucky to have been supported by some wonderful mentors in the Tasmanian Spirits Industry and believe that it is this collegial approach that has brought Tasmania the international fame.
We love collaborating with other producers, crafters and makers who share our ethos - to experiment, and grow.
